
Personal Property Registration provides registration to support the legislative requirements of the Personal Property Security Act. It also supports the money judgments and other civil enforcement proceedings. This information becomes public information once it is registered and Liens can be searched through the APPRES system.
The following are types of liens that can be registered on the APPRES system.
A security interest under the Personal Property Security Act, including leases for a term of more than one year, transfers of accounts or chattel paper and consignments.
A buyer's interest in goods left in the possession of the seller.
Document filed with the Clerk of the Court of Queen’s Bench. Registered on the APPRES System to enforce a creditor’s interest.
A garageman registers a lien against an owner’s vehicle for repairs, parts or storage for which he has not been paid.
An order or interim order of a court in Alberta, maintenance means maintenance support or alimony support.
A notice of a financial statement or final account of the receiver’s administration.
Other Liens that can be searched on APPRES are matrimonial Property Order, Crown Charge, Land Charge, Railway Rolling Stock.
It is important to search the Personal Property Registry called APPRES before buying property such as 
vehicles, trailers, mobile homes or boats or accepting personal property as collateral for a loan to see if it is free and clear of any liens or encumbrances.
When purchasing a previously owned vehicle, in addition to an APPRES Lien Search , the registry agent can provide a Vehicle Information Report to identify more information about a vehicles history.

Business Debtor Search, determines if there are any registrations for a specific business name
Serial Number Search, determines if there are any registrations for a specific serial number
Registration Number Search, determines the status of a specific registered document
Related Writ Search, determines if there are any registrations for individual and/or business names that may participate in distribution proceeds. This type of search will determine if enforcement proceedings are viable
